He takes a deep breath, closes his eyes, and everything is dark and cold. He lets out a breath, opens his eyes, and everything is bright and warm. Too bright, really, and not warm in any of the right ways, but he’s alive and it’s the future, so he takes another deep breath and moves forward.

It’s a fine line they’re made to walk, between knowing themselves, but still knowing what they are, who they belong to, how they are used.
She’s getting tired of it, and she thinks that he is, too. Maybe, together, they can come up with a way out.
