I AM THE SAME. I just love finding the most anti-vatican ii catholic church out there who sings in latin and plays with fire (literally, there was a fire) for easter vigil. but I hate the catholic church and I don’t believe in God.
i was actually researching latin catholic churches while also researching quaker congregations. unforch, the closest one is farther away than i care to drive. :(

facingthenorthwind replied to your post: When I was younger I really wanted to be a nun, but I didn’t want the religious side of it. I’ve since accepted that atheists don’t have nuns. D:
YES THIS IS THE BEST IDEA I LOVE IT. WE NEED A NAME FOR OUR ORDER. Any suggestions?
THE ORDER OF ALL CAPS AND TOO MUCH LOVE?
or do orders have to be named after people?

EMMA AND I ARE STARTING AN ATHEIST/AGNOSTIC CONVENT OKAY
WHO WANTS TO JOIN?
that makes sense! It’s just that all I’ve heard of the south are the negative things, but of course there are good things. XD Thank you for explaining, lovely!
haha, yeah, that seems to be how it is for most people not from here (or not from ‘round these parts, as we say). :D
actually, i think true blood, past the vampires and violence, is one of the best depictions of the south i’ve seen in pop media. like, it doesn’t erase the ugly parts, but it still shows the good ones, and it doesn’t present all southerners as ignorant and closed-minded, though it doesn’t ignore that we have our fair share of those who are. i kinda stopped watching last season, though, when my fave character was killed off and it seemed to become more about finding new ways to torture tara than anything else. i still like going back and watching the first couple of seasons, though.
see, like, here’s the thing about the south — there are some fanfuckingtastic people down here. i think i’d actually say that most of the people are absolutely wonderful. it’s just the dickish ones who have the fattest wallets and loudest mouths so they’re the ones who get elected and get heard by the rest of the country.
the ny times actually wrote an article about gay parenting in the south that’s really good. there’s also this piece on what it means to be southern in general that oh-you-better-run posted a few days ago and almost made me cry.
like, i’m graduating in december and finally going to be able to move, and all my life i’ve said that i can’t wait to get out of the south, but the closer it gets and the more i think about it, i really just don’t want to? so i’m moving to atlanta, ga (hopefully) with a couple of arkansas’s cities in mind as back-up.
the south has her problems. oh god, does the south ever have her problems. but we have a lot of people who are working hard to fix those problems, and if all those people up and move away, how will things ever change?
which isn’t to say that everyone should stay here. i totally understand people who leave and don’t begrudge them or anything, and not everyone who does stay here is doing it to fight. lord knows i’m tired of fighting and would like to just not for a few years or so.
so we stay here because our families are here; because anywhere we go, we’re likely to run into a familiar face or a name we’ve heard our whole lives; people will smile and make you feel welcome in places you’ve never set foot in your whole life; we like the food, mountains, rivers, caves, lakes; we don’t want to lose our accents; we don’t want to leave our friends; or hell, maybe we’re just to damn poor to make the move.
so, yeah, there are a lot of reasons to leave, but there are also a lot of reasons to stay.

facingthenorthwind replied to your chat: patron: how many books can we check out? me: we…
we have a limit of 12 at the local, 10 at uni and at school there’s…I don’t know of any official one? but I know they tell you to put some back if you’re borrowing four nonfiction of the same subject. XD
SEE, i do wish we would do something like the only x number of the same subject, because it kind of sucks when some parent lets their kid get ALL OF THE DINOSAUR BOOKS and then i have to spend the next two weeks watching kids’ hearts break when i tell them we don’t have any in right now.
